Angels of God, please buy something!

They come in and see me sometimes, these Angels of God. Something about organic food draws them in, or possibly it is the Crossroads, the first and oldest heart of the town that funnels them into our corner market.

Michael came to me on Monday. He didn't make it farther than two steps in and then his eyes locked to mine as I stood behind the register counter, smiling with a benign greeting. He offered me rapid and insistent blessings, and I acknowledged them and offered them back in return.

"Can I help you find something today, Sir?" (and perhaps allay your intensity, which I will not otherwise flinch away from?)

"Look into my eyes, and tell me if you see God within me!"

"I surely do see God in you, Sir. I see him in everyone." (so easy not to lie, sometimes.)

He disagreed - he insisted that his God is not in everyone, because the Devil has a hold on too many people. Since I didn't agree nor care to argue further with someone so passionate about his beliefs, I smiled. In reply, I shrugged in such a manner that he may find agreement therein if he chose, and thankfully, he did.

I was regaled with a story of the guards in jail trying to put his Holy Lights out - the selfsame intense orbs which threatened to burn me in my boots should I prove to be a demon or otherwise negative influence bent of the destruction of all that is Good in his world. He asked me name and offered me his: Michael.

Michael said that the Lord gave him that name, right after he cleared the guards' mace from his eyes. He says the Lord took away all of his pain, and I believe him. How could I not, knowing that the Holy and the Crazy and the sacred/scared Fool are generally the one and the same. I offered Michael my own blessings, and he left as intensely and abruptly as he came in.

God Bless You, Michael - the blessings of whatever God you serve, for I don't think you'd care for mine. My pity goes with whatever demons your deep and wild eyes come across, for your God sends you forth with no fear...a dangerous course for one so fleshy as ourselves.

My Michael came to me on Wednesday. I was photographing a benefit and the party afterwards. As I was attempting to leave, a dew-capped wild-eyed person showed up in the lobby. He started a conversation with me, stopping me repeatedly as I try to make an exit out the door and toward my car.

He was very interesting and was quite edifying. He gave me many blessings and started asking questions. He did not seem to have time for or hear my answers as he began to shareby quoting the Bible and the Torah. He was pretty accurate and animated in his quotes. I let him go for about 30 minutes, trying the smile and shrug thing was not effective and he was putting a lot of effort into his attempt to share joy with me.

I eventually excused myself letting him know that my wife would not be as forgiving as his God if I were to arrive much later. We exchanged hugs and I left with a smile.

I am thankful, although he saw a great deal of evil in the world, I believe he, too, saw God in everyone.

I only hope that someone sees the holiness in my craziness.

Oooh, I had one like that last night. He was worried that when the apocolypse came the miliary would try to shoot the angels and then the military would all go to hell.

Hi Amber! I found you through Tara and just wanted to say that I really admire what you're doing with your life and putting it up on the interweb for all to see... It's inspiring to see someone breaking free from our culture and dancing the dance of lunatics. :)

Also, I really enjoyed the post on natural hair washing ("egg-poo" lol) and am going to try it when I get back to a real house (I'm in a dorm right now...)

Anyway, you have charmed me into reading regularly :) Blessings!
